About the firm

Young & Associates Investigations, LLC is a licensed North Carolina investigative agency specializing in criminal defense — led by a former Raleigh Police Department detective with over twenty years of professional local, state, and federal experience.

Reuben D. Young · Owner & Lead Investigator

The investigator you hire is the investigator who works your case

Reuben D. Young is the owner and lead investigator of Young & Associates Investigations, LLC — a licensed North Carolina private investigator (Lic. #764313) and former law enforcement detective with more than twenty years of professional experience at the local, state, and federal levels.

He served as a detective with the Raleigh Police Department, with assignments in the Gang Investigative Unit and Robbery Squad, along with the Raleigh Intelligence Center and duty as a Field Training Officer. Between tours with RPD, he spent more than three years in Afghanistan as a trainer and mentor with the United States Department of State (DynCorp International), building investigative and patrol training programs for the Afghan National Police and Border Police. He also served with the Nash County Sheriff's Office after spending four years in the United States Air Force.

He now works alongside defense attorneys as part of the defense team, supporting defense counsel through every phase of litigation — discovery review, witness and defendant interviews, crime scene investigation, jury selection, trial preparation, and courtroom and grand jury testimony.

When you hire Young & Associates, you are hiring Reuben Young. He answers the call, works the field, writes the report, and sits in the witness box if your matter goes that far. Your case is never second-hand to the person handling it — he knows the file because he built it.

Our Approach

Evidence, not impressions

An investigation is only worth what it can prove. Four principles govern every file this firm opens.

Lawful methods, without exception

North Carolina and federal law define what an investigator may and may not do — how a vehicle may be followed, where a camera may be placed, which records are protected, what consent a recording requires. We stay inside those lines every time. Evidence gathered outside them is worthless in court and dangerous to the client who paid for it.

Documented as it happens

Surveillance logs are written in the field, not reconstructed afterward. Video and photographs carry accurate time stamps. Interviews are recorded or reduced to signed statements. When opposing counsel goes looking for gaps in the chain, there are none to find.

Honest about what is possible

Some questions cannot be answered by surveillance. Some records are sealed. Some cases need three days in the field and some need three weeks. You will hear an honest assessment before you commit money to it — including when the answer is that we are not the right firm for the job.

Discretion as a working condition

Clients come to us during the worst weeks of their lives. The existence of the case, your identity, and everything we find stay confidential. Reports go to you or to your attorney — nobody else — and field work is conducted so that the subject never knows it happened.

Who We Work For

Defendants, families, and the attorneys who represent them

Defendants and their families come to us when the state's version of events is the only one on record and they need an investigator working the case from their side.

Criminal defense attorneys retain us as an extension of the defense team — reviewing discovery, re-interviewing witnesses, developing mitigation, and producing exhibits and testimony that survive cross-examination, on matters up to and including capital cases.

Civil and family law attorneys and private clients use the same field capability for witness work, claim verification, custody documentation, infidelity investigations, and scene investigation.
